Kay Jewelers Closes at Genesee Valley Center in Flint Township

Another store has closed at the Genesee Valley Center in Flint Township.

Kay Jewelers is reportedly closed, and I’ve been told there is a sign posted at Dollar Sense indicating that it will also be closing inside the mall.

If my count is correct, that leaves just 14 open stores at Genesee Valley Center, not including kiosks.

When was the last time you visited the Genesee Valley Center? I was there just a few weeks ago to purchase a Detroit Tigers hat at Lids.

It was not super busy, but there were other shoppers and mall walkers around. I have to admit, I was surprised by the number of teenage shoppers I saw. According to a recent article from Fox 2 Detroit, Gen Z (ages 14 to 29) are really into shopping at malls.

That’s not to say everyone under 30 enjoys going to the mall, but it is interesting nonetheless. Back in the day, hitting up the Genesee Valley Center with friends was an event.

Or how about working at the mall? Those were highly envied jobs. As a teen, I always wanted to work at Record Town.

Fast forward to 2026, and shopping can now easily be done from the comfort of your couch with just a few clicks on your phone or computer. It has become all about convenience, speed, and having nearly everything delivered right to your doorstep.

Genesee Valley Mall is located at 3341 South Linden Road in Flint Township.
