Wait, Could Comerica Park Actually Get a New Name?
After more than two decades of baseball under the Comerica Park name, Tigers fans are starting to wonder if a change could be coming. That’s because Fifth Third Bancorp just announced plans to acquire Comerica Bank in a massive $10.9 billion deal.
Comerica Park’s been the Tigers’ home since 2000, and the naming rights deal was supposed to be up in 2029. However, they went ahead and extended it a few more years back in 2018, so it’s locked in through 2034…on paper anyway.
Could Comerica Park Become Fifth Third Park?
Still, if there’s one thing corporate mergers love to do, it’s rebrand. Fifth Third already has its name slapped on a bunch of sports venues, including Fifth Third Field (Toledo Mud Hens), Fifth Third Arena (Chicago Blackhawks practice facility), and Fifth Third Stadium (Kennesaw State). So yeah, it’s fair to wonder if Comerica Park could eventually become “Fifth Third Park.”
In a statement to WXYZ, a company spokesperson said Comerica Park is a beloved landmark and that it’s too early to talk about any name changes. They also mentioned making “thoughtful decisions” moving forward, which pretty much sounds like corporate speak for “we’ll see.” Deep down, you know it’s coming.
Updated 10/07/25: According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, Comerica Bank CEO Curt Farmer said there is no plan to change the stadium's name for the 2026 baseball season. But a rebrand would be possible for the following year.
Tiger Stadium or something nostalgic like that would be perfect for the city, but you know how it goes.
