Newsweek Reveals the Top 10 Hospitals in Michigan
Newsweek has revealed its rankings for the top hospitals in America and Michigan in 2024. You and I see these lists all the time, and we more than likely scroll through to see who is number one (or, more likely, who is at the bottom). But have you ever wondered how they came to that conclusion? I looked into it, and let's just say it's not a popularity contest.

The Newsweek hospital ranking process begins with Statista, a company that unsurprisingly deals in statistics. They grill hospital managers, administrators, and doctors in a nationwide survey. To avoid bias, these healthcare professionals could only answer questions and recommend hospitals they don't work for based on their opinion of the quality, staffing, patient care, and amenities offered.
Michigan Patient Surveys and Statistics
Next, patients were able to spill the tea on the care they received at hospitals across Michigan and the country. They rated their experience based on the facility's cleanliness, quietness, and whether anyone actually explained those confusing discharge instructions. Bonus points if nurses answered the call light like it was an Olympic sprint.
And if that wasn't enough, Newsweek took a deep dive into hospital stats, like Medicare and Medicaid data on mortality, safety, and readmission rates. A hospital cannot be rated unless it reports on at least three metrics, including deaths.
But wait, there's more to Newsweek's hospital rankings. Lastly, PROMS (Patient-Reported-Outcome Measures) is added to the rating treatment, measuring whether or not patient feedback is used to improve patient care or if it's filed under "MEH."
