I've been very vocal about my dislike for reboots. But when you look at something like the 1984 movie 'Supergirl', a reboot couldn't possibly be any worse than the original.

Critics didn't like the British superhero flick even a little, and it was a complete box office flop. The only good thing that came out of it was Saturn Award for Best Actress nomination for Helen Slater, the then young actress who played the role of 'Supergirl'.

Last night, I didn't change the channel after 'Wheel of Fortune', and then next thing I knew I was really into the new 'Supergirl' TV series. Sure, it's a little cheesy, but I said to my wife several times that Hayli, our daughter, would love this show! What a great role model!

There are plenty of superheros out there, but very few have great values, great spirit, and a genuine desire to help people. Melissa Benoist's portrayal of Superman's cousin is perfect! If more people were like Supergirl and Superman, the world would be a fantastic place to live. I'm not talking about the super powers, I'm talking about that inherent need to help people!

'Supergirl' airs Mondays at 8 on WNEM TV 5.
