The numbers are out, and the richest man in Michigan is once again Dan Gilbert. Michigan's wealthiest resident is worth about $6.5 billion, down just a little from last year's estimate of $6.8 billion.

Gilbert co-founded what would become Quicken Loans in 1985 at the tender age of 22. He sold the company for $232 million in 1999 and purchased it again a few years later for $64 million.

Gilbert has made significant investments in the rehabilitation of downtown Detroit and is currently the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Gilbert suffered a stroke in early 2019. He currently resides in Franklin, Michigan.
