Here Is the Richest Man in Michigan, and He Ain’t Hurtin’
The numbers are out, and the richest man in Michigan is once again Dan Gilbert. Michigan's wealthiest resident is worth about $6.5 billion, down just a little from last year's estimate of $6.8 billion.
Gilbert co-founded what would become Quicken Loans in 1985 at the tender age of 22. He sold the company for $232 million in 1999 and purchased it again a few years later for $64 million.
Gilbert has made significant investments in the rehabilitation of downtown Detroit and is currently the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Gilbert suffered a stroke in early 2019. He currently resides in Franklin, Michigan.
