Flint Is On The Path To Set A New Homicide Record

With the recent surge in violence over the weekend Flint is now on a course to set a new homicide record that was put in place back in 2012.

It's scary to think that things have only gotten worse over time and now 2021 could set the new record for homicides. I blame the pandemic more than anything, I feel like as a community the pandemic caused more mental damage than anything.

The Flint Police Department released its latest citywide crime statistics update on Monday. The city has now seen 39 total homicides in 2021, up from 27 at the same time last year, representing a 44.4% increase, year to year.

 

Flint set a single-year record for homicides in 2012 with 68. Right now, the city is on a pace to see 72 homicides this year, which would set a new record. Source:NBC25.com 

The mayor and the police are urging more residents to get involved and I agree. But I can understand the fear of mentally ill people running around killing each other can deter someone from speaking up. Who's to say that they won't come back for you? And the police can't be everywhere at once.

I would like to take it one step further by encouraging Flint residents to learn to how protect themselves and band together to root out the bad eggs. If the bad guys wanna run around armed with weapons so can the good guys, and it's about time we stepped up and take our neighborhoods back.
