Five Michigan Big Lots Stores to Reopen – Here’s When

It's been a tumultuous ride for Big Lots stores over the last couple of years. But there is a sliver of hope for the chain, as five Michigan Big Lots stores will be reopening soon.

Big Lots to Reopen Stores Across the US

In December of last year, Big Lots' parent company Variety Wholesalers announced that it was entering an agreement with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, LLC. The move meant new life for the retailer, which had shuttered more than 40 Michigan stores in 2024.

At its peak, Big Lots operated about 1,400 retail stores throughout the US. Although the majority of those stores will remain closed, the Gordon Brothers deal will breathe new life into a few hundred locations, including five here in Michigan.

When Will Big Lots Reopen in Michigan?

Over the next month, Big Lots plans to reopen stores in two phases.

Phase 1 will begin on May 1, while more stores will reopen on May 15 as part of phase 2. Scroll down for the list of Michigan Big Lots locations that will reopen in May 2025.

Big Lots' Reopening - A Work in Progress

Lisa Seigies is the President and CEO of Variety Wholesalers. She said in a press release that the company expects hiccups as the stores race to reopen in May.

"We’re thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever," she said. "We know the stores won't be perfect to start."
