Even if you think you live in a safe neighborhood, you never know when your home or car may be targeted by a thief. Something as simple as locking your doors can be the difference between reporting a break-in or nothing at all. Fenton Police say three suspects are facing charges after a string of vehicle break-ins across several neighborhoods earlier this month.

String of Overnight Reports in Fenton

It all started in the early morning hours of October 7, when police got multiple reports of people dressed in black going through cars in a subdivision off North Road. Officers say the suspects were seen pulling on door handles and checking for unlocked vehicles.

Just a few hours later, around 4 a.m., Grand Blanc Township police pulled over a car near Fenton and Hill Roads that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Inside, officers say they found wallets, credit cards, and other stolen items.

A 30-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man, and a 21-year-old man — all from Flint — were taken into custody. Investigators believe the trio broke into between 20 and 30 vehicles in multiple Fenton subdivisions near North and Poplar Roads.

Unlocked Cars Were the Only Targets

Police say all of the vehicles that were entered had been left unlocked. No signs of forced entry were found. Fenton Police Sgt. Cole Hopkins says something as simple as locking your doors can make all the difference:

We’d cut down on half the crime, if not all of it, by just simply locking your car.

Charges of larceny from a vehicle and possession of stolen property are being sought.
