It'll be available worldwide on computers and mobile devices to all 1.32 billion users.

Facebook is creating a tool that will allow its users to notify family & friends that they're safe during a natural disaster.

It's called "Safety Check." The idea came from a disaster message board that engineers created in 2011 after the tsunami in Japan. Once you activate the tool, it will determine your location based on the city listed in your profile. If you're in the city or cities affected by the natural disaster, Safety Check will send you a notification to make sure you're safe.

If you ARE safe, your Facebook friends will be notified. There is no option to say no. Friends can report you as "safe," but you have to approve it.

Is this a good idea? Would you use it?
