Detroit Essential Workers Get 'Thank You' Bikes

The fundraiser is called B4E - Bikes for Essential Workers.

Having a reliable form of transportation to get to-and-from work is a real problem for a lot of people. You may have a car, but not everybody does. That's why the Henry Ford health system is partnering with B4E and a local councilman to help make sure that their employees have a way to get to work.

Last week, B4E gave free bikes away to 22 essential workers at healthcare and other facilities in Detroit in a partnership with Henry Ford.

“The partnership is a great fit with Henry Ford’s ongoing efforts to improve the health of its employees and the communities it serves,” director of sustainability for Henry Ford Health System, Chip Amoe, said in a press release. “Using a bicycle for commuting to work, running errands, or just for exercise has numerous health benefits, both physical and mental, is good for the environment and may even help lessen the severity of COVID-19 for those who contract the virus.”

Employees were also given locks and helmets, as well as free regular repairs as needed.

I'm a bit biased; I bike at least 5 miles every day, whether it be inside or outside, and I love to ride my bike to the store and to work. It's super relaxing, it's great for your health and it really is a fantastic form of transportation if you live close enough to your job to make it work.
