On Christmas Day, Elton John and David Furnish welcomed Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John into their family.  US Weekly has more here.  But not everyone is overjoyed at the thought of a gay couple on the cover of a magazine.

On the left, Sir Elton John (63)  and his partner of 17 years, David Furnish (48) as pictured on a recent cover of US Weekly..

The picture on the right shows how the magazine is displayed at "Harps", a grocery store in Arkansas.  Seriously?  Is this censorship really occurring  in 2011?.

According to Earsucker.com:

Jennifer Huddleston tweeted this message out to numerous people in the span of three hours, “This was taken at my local grocery store. I was shocked and horrified. Can you help bring attention to this? http://t.co/sqYhBzc”. The link shows you the photo above, taken of the censorship of Elton and David — BECAUSE they are an openly gay couple. She tweeted, “They are saying they need to keep children from seeing it, because it is a gay family.”

As a father, I've always tried to teach tolerance, and I have no reservations about my 13 year-old sons seeing a picture of a monogamous celebrity couple, holding their son.   I'd prefer they see that, rather than the everyday news of non-monogamous couples, caught in love triangles, that so frequently finds its way to newsstands.  As always, we welcome your thoughts and comments.

To my knowledge, Elton has not tweeted or commented on the censorship, but did express joy about his son's birth to US Weekly:

"I've never felt anything like it in my life," the music legend tells Us of holding their son for the first time. "You're so awestruck. What can you say? You take it in. The feeling, the joy, the warmth of his body, his breathing...I will never forget that experience ever."
