GM has confirmed it is eliminating its third shift at the Flint Engine Operations plant next month. Over 100-GM workers will be out of job. GM says the shift will go away in April. But this was a not a complete surprise.
Flint engine has been building and exporting engines to Korea until GM Korea started up production of the same engine for the Buick Encore which is built in that country.
Union leaders thought GM Korea would take over full production later this year.
But, they are running ahead of schedule and no longer need the engines from Flint.  The layoffs will hit 64 full time and 40 temporary workers. More below.
