Off to a Great Start: Peek Inside This Michigan Home Where Derek Jeter Grew Up
Maybe West Michigan doesn't get all the credit, but baseball hall-of-famer Derek Jeter certainly got a great start in life, growing up in this modest Mitten-State bungalow.
Who is Derek Jeter?
Derek Jeter's family had high expectations for him as he was growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. His parents insisted that he sign a 'good behavior contract' every year. That code of ethics carried him through his longtime career with the New York Yankees and followed him into the Baseball Hall of Fame. (Sure, there was that little incident in 2010 that put a chink in Jeter's reputation, but nobody's perfect, right?)
Jeter was born in New Jersey and his family moved to West Michigan when he was four. He was bitten by the baseball bug early, playing little league as a young boy and going to New York Yankees games with his grandparents during his childhood.
He was drafted by the Yankees right out of high school and spent nearly 20 years with the team before becoming an analyst for Fox Sports and taking on a management position with the Miami Marlins.
Derek Jeter's Childhood Home
Although Jeter's father played a little ball in college, he didn't earn sports star money. Jeter's childhood home was a modest, 2,100 square-foot home in Kalamazoo with five bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
It recently hit the market for $299,900 and has had many recent updates. From the pics below, you can tell that the home has had lots of TLC from its present owners.
The house where Derek grew up is located at 2415 Cumberland Street in Kalamazoo. The listing is being handled by Jessica Steele and Lauren White of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services of Michigan.
