Could Dana Carvey Replace Regis Philbin on ‘Live’?
As he announced earlier this year, beloved television personality Regin Philbin is retiring from the syndicated ‘Live! with Regis and Kelly’ on November 18 after more than a quarter-century co-hosting the various incarnations of the program.
Since then, names such as Ryan Seacrest, Andy Cohen and actor Mark Consuelos, the husband of Philbin’s current co-host, Kelly Ripa, have been bandied about as possible replacements. And now, while an insider says there is no frontrunner, a new name has people talking: ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum Dana Carvey.
Carvey is best known for ‘SNL’ characters like the Church Lady and his impressions of Tom Brokaw, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Stewart, as well as his role as Mike Myers’ sidekick Garth in the ‘Wayne’s World’ movie franchise.
Although a rep for ‘Live’ had no comment on Carvey, he can’t be ruled out of contention. Ripa said in September, “Truly, it’s a wide open canvas. And everybody is in play.”
