Some might consider this romantic. Others might question their sanity. Seven couples have begun a quest to break the world record for the longest kiss, which was set last year at 46 hours, 24 minutes and 9 seconds. The "Kiss-Off" began on Sunday and will conclude on Valentine's Day, providing that anyone lasts that long.

The event is taking place in the Thailand beach resort area of Pattaya, some 62 miles south of Bangkok. The record was set last year by Lakkana Tiranarat, 31, and her husband, both back for another chance to break the record.

Contest rules state that food and drinks must be taken through a straw. The toilet is off-limits the first 3 hours of the contest. After that, lips still together, they must be accompanied by a referee for any later bathroom breaks. The winning couple will receive a diamond ring valued at $3,333 and a hotel gift voucher. I would imagine a Chapstick endorsement might also be a good possibility.
