Coronavirus: More Cases Expected, Whitmer Urges Michigan Residents to Slow the Spread [VIDEO]

Governor Gretchen Whitmer gave an update on the coronavirus in Michigan, urging residents to take steps in order to slow the spread of the disease.

One day after two cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Metro Detroit, Whitmer spoke on the dangers of the disease at a press conference at the State Emergency Operations Center in Dimondale.

“Even if you are healthy and asymptomatic, you can unknowingly be carrying and spread the disease,” Whitmer said. “Assume that you are, and take those precautions. Do it for yourself, for your loved ones, for your coworkers and the public at large.”

The Governor emphasized the importance of handwashing and good hygiene while urging Michigan's employers and schools to limit non-essential travel and gatherings of 100 people or more. She also noted the importance of staying home when you're sick.

“This goes for everyone,” Whitmer said. “Stay at home when you are sick. At this time we must take every precaution to keep our communities safe and protect those at risk of severe illness ... Think about our most vulnerable populations."

Whitmer praised Michigan's major colleges that announced they'd be suspending face-to-face classes and urged organizers of large gatherings like music and sporting events to take the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of spreading the disease.
