When a Genesee County man checked his Powerball ticket, he believed he’d won $50,000. It wasn’t until later that he discovered his prize had been tripled to $150,000.

Thomas Clark of Clio matched four white balls in the August 25 Powerball drawing. Because he added the Power Play option, his ticket was worth a whopping $150,000.

Clio Resident's Big Powerball Surprise

“I play Powerball and Mega Millions whenever the jackpot starts getting up there,” Clark said. “I scanned my ticket at the store and got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office. I forgot I added Power Play to my ticket, so I thought I’d only won $50,000. It was quite the surprise when I scanned the ticket on the app and $150,000 came up on the screen.”

Clark, pictured above with his wife Tracie, bought the winning ticket at the Conlee Country Store on West Vienna Road in Clio. The couple plans to use their winnings to finish some home improvements, pay bills, and set aside the rest in savings.

Michigan Lottery’s Recent Big Wins

Michigan has been on a lucky streak as of late. Just days before Clark’s win, a Grand Blanc player matched five numbers in the August 20 Powerball drawing to claim $1 million. A Genesee County woman also turned pocket change into a $500,000 scratch-off prize at a Flint gas station. And on September 1, another Michigan player scored $1 million on a Powerball ticket purchased at a CVS in Detroit.
