You could call this a Heavenly Home. A church built in 1888 on the north shore of Lake Michigan has been transformed into a spacious, three-bedroom home.

Yes, it still looks really churchy, especially on the outside. And since the stained glass windows are still intact, there is no masking the fact that this building was not originally erected for a slovenly family of four to make messes, play video games, and call it their home.

And this brings up an important point:  Would you feel funny about watching R-rated movies, sleeping, and doing other - you know - nighttime activities in a space where people once took communion?

I guess if your name is on the deed, you can do whatever you want, right?

A Long, Rich History

According to the listing, the building was built in 1888 and was originally known as the Ferry Hall Chapel. Ferry Hall was a private high school for girls. The structure was designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb, who was known as the man behind the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Illinois.

The building was converted into a private residence in 1980. It has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Many Renovations Through the Years

The home features both first-floor and second-floor master bedroom suites, a chef's kitchen with granite countertops, and two offices. There's an additional bedroom suite located on the third floor.

Many improvements to the home's flooring, roof, and infrastructure have been made over the last 15 years.

The house is located at 539 N Mayflower Rd. in Lake Forest, Illinois and the listing is being handled by Suzanne Myers of Coldwell Banker Realty. It's listed for $1.4 million.

Heavenly Home: Church on Lake Michigan is Now a Beautiful Home

Nearly 100 years after this beautiful church was built in 1888, it was converted into a single-family home.

While its stained glass windows still make it look rather churchy, it has definitely taken on the character of a spacious home.
