Best Haunted Houses Around Flint – George’s Top Five
As if Flint isn’t scary enough already! My son David and I look forward to October each year, because it’s haunted-house season! The Flint area offers several that are good, and several are located in close proximity, near the point in Grand Blanc. Ranking them was actually “tricky” this year because all five offer roughly the same amount of fright. We think it’s fun to do something where the scariest part isn’t waiting in line!

13 Feet Under
Grand BlancLocated at Playland Park in Grand Blanc, this is part II of Saint Lucifer’s Haunted Asylum. The highlight is the caged actors that come out of nowhere, and for a second it feels like they’re about to knock you over! Tickets are $15, combo tickets with Saint Lucifer’s make it a bit cheaper.

Past Tense After Dark
LapeerThis haunted house actually takes place in two buildings, and has some scary effects. It’s pitch black in some sections, which is an added bonus. They also have a haunted hayride, and a corn maze which we found to be a frustratingly fun challenge. Bonus points for being able to get an awesome hand-dipped ice cream cone after a frightfully good time! The haunted house is $10; each of the other two attractions is $5, or $18 for all three.

Thirteenth Realm
Grand BlancThe Thirteenth Realm is two haunts in one. Hop on the hayride and you are off to either Twisted Wicked or Nocturnal Nightmare. Twisted Wicked, the haunted maze, keeps you on edge at every turn as you try to find your way out. Nocturnal Nightmare takes you down the haunted trail where you never know what will be jumping out next. Check out each one for $13 a piece or purchase the combo ticket for both haunts for just $20. Thirteenth Realm is located on Dort Highway at Loch Lomond Golf Course in Flint.

Saint Lucifer’s Asylum
Grand BlancYour journey begins with a ride in the rickety haunted elevator into the underground halls of an abandoned psychiatric hospital. Electroshock therapy is the specialty at this hospital! Tickets are $15, and combo tickets with 13 Feet Under make it a bit cheaper. Bonus points for the actors that make standing in line entertaining!

The Crypt
BurtonAlways a favorite, the Crypt is located at Chemco in Burton. For as long as we’ve been going, this haunt always seems to add new elements and freshens things up each year. I’ve gone to many over the years, but the Crypt gets the #1 position in my list because I actually jumped when sparks flew as we passed a fence that seemed to be electrified by the person inside. Boo indeed!
