Best Buy Will Stop Selling CDs in July, Target May Follow
Target might start selling CDs on a consignment basis only, and Best Buy is done all together.
It was announced on Friday that Best Buy will cease its sales of CDs starting in July of this year. CD sales were down 18.5 percent last year as a whole.
They will continue to sell vinyl, but sources are saying that they will be sold exclusively with turntables.
Target has given an ultimatum to music and video suppliers; they want to move to a sales-based system where they only pay for the CDs and DVDs that they actually SELL. If suppliers don't agree, there's a rumor that they may pull them all together.
Do you still buy CDs? My best friend is a music fanatic who refuses to stream. He still loves buying a physical album, which may prove to be difficult as time marches forward. RIP, CD.
