Last-Minute Deal Saves At Home, Most Michigan Stores to Stay Open
An eleventh-hour move has rescued home décor retailer At Home from bankruptcy, meaning most Michigan stores will keep their doors open despite one recent closure.
In June, we reported that the national home décor chain had filed for bankruptcy and planned to close about 20 stores nationwide. At the time, all Michigan locations were spared, but in August the retailer expanded its closure list to 30 — adding its Ypsilanti store to the lineup.
Bankruptcy Rescue Keeps Michigan Stores Open
That plan changed late last month when a court approved At Home’s financial restructuring, backed by a last-minute deal with its lenders. The move allows the Texas-based retailer to exit bankruptcy, eliminate significant debt, and keep the majority of its 250-plus stores — including nearly all in Michigan — open for business.
Ypsilanti Store Closure
However, the Ypsilanti store officially closed its doors on September 29, one day before the court approved At Home’s restructuring plan.
In a statement, At Home CEO Brad Weston said the reorganization “positions the company for long-term success” and thanked employees for their support during the process.
“We are pleased to have reached this important milestone in our efforts to position At Home for future success,” Weston said. “Thanks to the hard work of our team over the last few months, we have now accomplished all that we set out to achieve at the beginning of this process.”
At Home operates approximately 230 stores nationwide, with several locations throughout Michigan, including Saginaw, Troy, Utica, Kalamazoo, Bloomfield Hills, Roseville, and Wixom.
