Are You Upsetting Police When You Mow Your Lawn?
Everyone wants their lawn to look great, but local police are asking that you take care of your grass clippings.
So many people are asking if it's actually illegal to leave grass clippings in the road, but the answer isn't very clear. The short answer is that it all depends on where you live. There is no blanket law against it in Michigan, but there are city ordinances in certain areas.
So if it's not illegal, why are the police asking people not to do it?
I asked the same question myself, and got a quick education from a few motorcycle riding friends.
I had no idea that these grass clippings not only look sloppy, but they are extremely dangerous for motorcyclists. The grass clippings cause motorcycles to lose traction, and is even compared to driving on ice by some bikers.
So if you don't live in an area where it is illegal, you should still take care of the clippings. Aside from the fact that it makes your yard look like crap, it's also a major safely hazard for bikers.
