‘AI Intruder’ Prank Hits Michigan: Police Warn of New Social Media Trend
Authorities are warning residents about a new national social media prank that’s made its way to Michigan. The stunt uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate fake photos of an “intruder” lurking inside someone’s home. The convincing images are meant to shock or scare, but officials say the trend could lead to panic or even violent reactions.
What Is the ‘AI Intruder’ Prank?
Police in West Bloomfield are urging parents to talk to their children about the potentially dangerous AI prank that’s been spreading on TikTok.
The department tells Detroit’s WXYZ-TV that a similar case was recently reported locally, prompting their warning that the prank could have serious repercussions.
Why Parents Should Be Concerned
“We're echoing the Yonkers Police Department in warning the community about a disturbing TikTok trend known as the ‘AI Homeless Man Prank,’” the department says in a Facebook post. “Parents: Please talk to your kids about the real consequences of these trends. What seems funny online could have serious emotional and/or legal consequences.”
If you see suspicious activity, either real or suspected, you're urged to contact police immediately and not share images online.
