Charitable donations in action!

If you listen to our show, you'll know that we do some work with Tommy's Heart, an organization out of Flushing for one of our coworker's sons who passed away suddenly from a heart condition at the age of 17 in 2011.

Last week, the staff at Camp Copneconic in Fenton was training their new counselors on what to do in emergency situations when one of them, 19-year-old Austin Poley, collapsed while running on the beach during a missing swimmer drill.

Staff called 911 and immediately put into action the AED that had been donated by Mary Smith, the head of Tommy's Heart and Thomas Smith's mom, two years ago.

Poley's heart was shocked back into rhythm and, by the time paramedics arrived, he was sitting up and talking. He had no idea that he had a heart condition prior to this incident.
