Meet Cody. In the video below, you’ll see the 3-year-old boy from Pontiac wearing a blue blanket as a cape—because some heroes really do wear capes. Cody has every reason to be proud: last week, he helped save his mother’s life during a medical emergency.

Cody, the 3-Year-Old Hero

Shantell Woods is Cody's mom. Last Thursday, while cooking dinner, Shantell sat down on her couch because she felt dizzy. Woods, who has epilepsy, tells Detroit's WXYZ-TV that she then had a seizure and fell unconscious.

Her son Cody was the only one at home with her at the time.

As Shantell lay unconscious, Cody knew exactly what to do. The boy held his mother's phone close to her face to unlock it, then used it to FaceTime his mother's friend, Kaya.

"Kaya, help mommy, help mommy," Cody said during the call.

Kaya, who lives within walking distance of Shantell and Cody, quickly summoned 911 for help.

She tells the TV station she initially thought the call was from Shantell, but later learned it was Cody.

"I panicked. I was crying and going through the emotions," Kaya said. "Come to find out it was Cody."

Community Celebrates Toddler’s Heroism

Neighbors have been heaping praise on the boy since the incident, with some promising to buy him free ice cream for the rest of the year.

Nice job, kiddo.
