One of my favorite things about summer in Michigan is small town festivals. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the 24th annual Yale Bologna Festival in the small town of Yale about an hour east of Flint.
Last year Warrior Dash attracted some 20,000 participants to run through fire, jump into mud pits and hop, crawl and maneuver through various obstacles on the three mile plus course at Genesee County Parks' E.A. Cummings Center in Mt. Morris.
July 21 marks the birth anniversary of one of America's most famous authors. Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, and died in 1961. His distinctive writing style, characterized by economy and understatement was a big influence on 20th-century fiction. Hemingway lived a life of adventure, which was reflected in his writing.
You have an extra delicious reason to visit the Flint Farmer's Market tomorrow. In addition to the wonderful local produce that is coming into season, the annual BBQ Battle will take place at the market, and you get to help pick the winner.
In just 15 days you have the chance to saddle up and help raise some money for the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital's Congenital Heart Center. The 10th annual Tour des Lacs charity bike ride will take place in and around Fenton on August 4th.
When Elle Zober found out that her husband of 10 years had been cheating on her with a much younger woman, she decided there was no reconciling. And she took the divorce public when she put their Beaverton, Oregon home on the market.
I Chews the Blues is expanding this year. The annual blues festival at the Davison Eagles Club will add a second night of entertainment, starting on Friday night (Aug 3) and culminating Saturday night (Aug 4th)

Happy cows produce more milk. At least that's the theory, and one of many reasons that an Oregon farmer has installed waterbeds for his dairy cows. Kyrn Van Loon, co-owner of Van Loon Dairy Farm says that the cows sleep better and it is easier to keep their stalls cleaner with the new waterbeds.
Thursday night in downtown Flint is an opportunity to get in a good run or walk and help inner-city kids get scholarships. The Ophelia Bonner 8k/5k races start at 6:30 and the weather is supposed to be much nicer than what we have had to suffer through lately.
The first annual Atwood Stadium 5k/10k and kids races last year drew nearly 1000 participants. I was one of them and did the "Duo-Medaly", where you get a special shirt and medal for doing both the 5k and 10k events.
