Where’s the Beef? Wendy’s Out of Burgers at Some U.S. Locations
No this isn't a return to the fast food giants former marketing campaign. The question is serious... where's the beef?
Wendy's is actually taking burgers off the menu at some of their locations across the country due to due the meat shortage caused by the coronavirus.
Wendy's explained to Fox Business that although hey are still delivering hamburger to their restaurants, some supplies may be smaller that usual. "As you've likely heard, beef suppliers across North America are currently facing production challenges,' Wendy's said in a statement. "Because of this, some of our menu items may be in short supply from time to time at some restaurants in this current environment."
On Monday, nearly one in five Wendy’s restaurants, which is a a total of 1,043 locations, were sold out of beef products, including burgers according to the New York Times. It seems that beef shortages vary from state to state, with locations in Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Connecticut, and Indiana hit particularly hard.
Wendy's, which operates about 5,800 locations in the U.S., has always proudly marketed itself in using only fresh and never frozen beef products. Some feel this has the chain feeling the pinch a little sooner that their competition.
Faithful customers across the country took to social media to vent their frustrations. Posts on Twitter indicated that customers were unable to order specialty burgers such as double burgers, and offered singles instead due to beef rationing.
