Several Weight Watchers locations around the area have abruptly closed.

With little or no warning, Weight Watchers locations in Fenton, Bay City, Midland, and Saginaw have all been shuttered. The area's only remaining Weight Watchers meeting place is currently the location on Miller Rd. in Flint.

The closure leaves many members in the dark, without a place for support, encouragement, and social networking as they journey toward their weight loss goals. Marie Clements tells ABC-12 that she's been a Weight Watchers member for approximately 30 years.

“I’m devastated. I scheduled my life around Weight Watchers,” she tells the station.

The Fenton resident says driving to Flint for a weekly meeting isn't an option, but worries about the effect not attending meetings will have on her lifestyle.

“It’s very important. When I don’t go to the meetings, my weight starts creeping up and I don’t like that,” she said.

Teresa Melzer tells WJRT that she is also devastated by the closure of the Fenton location.

“It’s really hard to face the scale and so adding an extra component of driving or driving a little further for a meeting can be enough to derail people,” she said. “We drive five minutes to Fenton or 20 minutes to Flint. I don’t know that I'll stay in.”

The franchise locations in Fenton, Bay City, Midland, and Saginaw were recently acquired by Weight Watcher International, which made the decision to close the locations.
