The rescues happened at the end of May, and just last week.

The bear was noticed by a group of tourists on a boat tour, according to the Alger County Sheriff's Office. Undersheriff Blank said that they had a boat on standby and wanted to try a rescue, and the Department of Natural Resources agreed to help.

The bear, which weighed approximately 125 pounds, was thought to have been stranded for about two weeks. They rescued it on May 29th by coaxing it out of the rocks with a pole; it swam alongside the boat for a half-mile until they reached the shore. The bear took a minute to rest and then ran away.

And, not more than two weeks later, a deer was in the same position, so they executed the same rescue..and it worked!
