When you think of hippies, you think of free spirits, right? One city in Michigan has been designated the most-hippie-friendly city in the entire state.

The Definition of Hippie Has Evolved

Over the years, the definition of hippie may have changed. If you asked your parents or grandparents about hippies, they'd probably tell you about unemployed flower-power beatniks that tumbled out of VW microbuses and listened to Arlo Guthrie.

Today, calling someone a hippie is more of a term of endearment. Hippies are simply free spirits who may occupy college campus dorms or homes in the suburbs. After all, a lot of hippies are baby boomers who have gone on to get good jobs, make a ton of money, and even retire comfortably while maintaining that free-spirited, love-everyone attitude.

Do Hippies Have a Place to Call Home in Michigan?

The answer to that question is undeniably yes.

The website Thrillist crunched the numbers in order to come up with the "most hippie city" in each of the 50 states. Of course, there's nothing truly scientific about a poll like this but just for fun, let's take a look at what they had to say.

The most hippie city in the entire state of Michigan is Ann Arbor.

According to the website, typical Ann Arbor hippies "are baby boomers who have made enough money to afford Ann Arbor real estate."

Ann Arbor's annual Hash Bash contributes to the city's hippie-friendly status and it's said to have some of the most lenient marijuana possession laws in the country.

Did they get it right? Is Ann Arbor the 'most hippie friendly' city in the state? Let us know what you think.
