The University of Michigan is considering a bid by controversial white nationalist speaker Richard Spencer to speak on campus.

Spencer, whose ideological views have often been considered synonymous with white supremacy, was one of the featured speakers at the Charlottesville, Virginia 'Unite the Right' Rally which led to several days of violence and numerous deaths earlier this year. Subsequent speaking engagements at Michigan State University and Ohio State Universidty were cancelled, which led to legal action against the schools.

A University of Michigan spokesman says it has yet to make a decision regarding Spencer's request and will "pay close attention to the safety and security of our community" when considering its options.
