An Inkster woman is in custody and her son is in critical condition after she shot him in the back this morning (3/8). Police say the mother allegedly shot the 17-year-old boy because he did not want to go to school.

Michigan State Police tell WDIV that the boy was running from the mother when she shot him in the back through a glass window in the front door of their apartment.

The staff at Canterbury Apartments issued the following statement:

"Since early this morning, we have been in touch with police about this sad situation and are cooperating with their investigation. We do not believe any of our other residents' or homes were affected by this incident."

At this time, the boy's condition is listed as critical but stable.

Exactly how did this mother think that shooting her son in the back (or shooting him at all for that matter) would encourage or enable him to go to school today?
