DermaRite Soap Recall Over Dangerous Bacteria Contamination

Several popular soap and skincare products are being pulled from shelves nationwide after tests revealed contamination with dangerous bacteria that can cause life-threatening infections.

What You Need to Know About the Recall

New Jersey–based DermaRite Industries has issued a voluntary recall due to microbial contamination with Burkholderia cepacia, a bacterium that can lead to serious illness. The affected products were distributed nationwide.

Who Is at Risk?

According to Newsweek, Burkholderia cepacia is commonly found in soil and water. While it typically poses little risk to healthy individuals, it can cause severe infections such as sepsis in those with weakened immune systems.
