A case of Scabies has been reported at one building in the Davison School District.

Parents were informed via email that the district's website had been updated to reflect a case of the infection had been discovered at Central Elementary School.

We have updated our Current Health Information link on our website to reflect that a case of Scabies has been reported at Central Elementary.

The email goes on to direct parents to the school's website which links to the Genesee County Health Department.

According to the health department, Scabies is defined as "An infestation of the skin with the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabei. The mite burrows and lives under the skin, and can infect anyone."

Scabies is spread by direct prolonged contact with an infected person and can also be transmitted by sharing clothing, towels, or bedding. However, the mite does not jump from person to person.

Persons who show signs of the infestation should be isolated. Contact the Genesee County Health Department immediately at 810.257.1017.
