A routine traffic moment in Northern Michigan turned violent when a road rage encounter escalated into an ax attack. The altercation—between two men in their 70s—left one injured and the other under arrest.

How the Road Rage Incident Started

The incident began when one of the men failed to turn right on red. Police tell Up North Live that the 74-year-old Traverse City man began moving after the light at the intersection of Woodmere and Hannah turned green. He then turned right into the Traverse Area District Library, where he was followed by the enraged 70-year-old man who had been waiting behind him.

Police say both men exited their vehicles, and the younger man struck the victim in the upper left arm with an ax.

The 74-year-old then drove himself to Traverse City’s Munson Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

70-Year-Old Traverse City Man Arrested

Later that day (April 14), the 70-year-old was arrested at his home. He has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

I have to ask: Was it worth it?

The ax-wielding man had to (good heavens!) wait a couple of extra minutes behind someone who didn’t turn right on red. The result? He was arrested.

This author’s opinion: Take a deep breath. If you’re driving in the great state of Michigan, you’re going to see people doing stupid things. And yes, other drivers may, from time to time, cost you a few precious moments. Get over it.
