Red Cross Says Type O Blood Supply is Critically Low
Give blood. Now.
The American Red Cross says its supply of Type O blood is dangerously low and urges anyone who is eligible to give blood to do so as soon as possible.
Red Cross officials say they have less than a two-day supply of Type O blood. The supply is currently at six units for every 100,000 people -- that's less than half of what is needed every day.
Just six units of type O blood are available for every 100,000 people, but at least 14 are needed every day. Type O Positive blood is the most-often transfused blood type.
The Red Cross is currently offering a $5 Amazon gift card to anyone who donates blood or platelets. Donate by June 10 to take advantage of this offer.
If you live in the Flint or Genesee County area, the nearest American Red Cross office is located at 1401. S. Grand Traverse in Flint.
