Do you ever camp out in the left lane? Turns out, you're not only inconveniencing other drivers, but breaking the law as well. Michigan State Police officers will soon be cracking down on left-lane hogs.

Trooper Scott Allen from the Michigan State Police tells WLNS that driving in the passing lane for extended periods can lead to slow downs and accidents.

“This law is definitely created from a safety standpoint,” Allen went on to point out that the action can lead to a ticket. “Depending on the infraction there could be points as well as fines.”

Sometimes drivers forget:  The right lane is for driving.

“This allows the left lane for passing only, or if there are emergency responders, construction on the right hand lane,” Allen said.
