Over Half A Ton Of Marijuana Seized At Port Huron Border Crossing

Over half a ton of marijuana was seized by United States Customs Agents on Sunday night.

On Sunday night, a garbage truck was stopped at the United States/Canada border while crossing the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. Upon inspection, the United States Customs and Border Protection Office found more than half a ton of marijuana hidden in trash bags. The driver of the truck said he was en route to take the trash to a Michigan landfill.

Traffickers will use any means to attempt to transport illegal narcotics across our borders...Our officers are highly trained to spot inconsistencies, and I’m proud of their actions leading to such a significant seizure...said Acting Port Director April Donaghy.

In 2020 alone, the Canadian Border Patrol has seized over nine thousand pounds of marijuana at border crossings in Michigan.

Twenty years ago this may have been more of a thing. Now, I just do not understand why they did it. Why in the hell would you think it was a good idea to haul half a ton of marijuana across an international border that is already closed to non-essential travel because of a global pandemic into a state where weed is legal?

It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I can name you five different places within three miles of the radio station where anyone can go and get some weed. Granted, I don't know the ins and outs of the international drug trade rings, but I thought they were smarter than that.
