Ohio State Tries to Trademark ‘The’ + Michigan Fires Back [VIDEO]
The word 'The.' It's probably THE most used word in THE English language. It's THE ultimate article. And Ohio State wants to trademark it.
Um, good luck with that.
Ohio State University, formally known as 'The Ohio State University' has filed a trademark application on the word 'The' in order to claim ownership of the word, when it's used on official 'The Ohio State University' merchandise.
It's not a joke. Chris Davey, a spokesman for the university, tells the Columbus Dispatch that The Ohio State is taking this seriously.
“Like other institutions, Ohio State works to vigorously protect the university’s brand and trademarks," Davey said. “These assets hold significant value, which benefits our students and faculty and the broader community by supporting our core academic mission of teaching and research.”
As you'd probably expect, the University of Michigan has fired back, Mocking Ohio State with a new log on Twitter that makes the word 'Of' the center of attention.
