No Surprise - Study Says Michigan Has the Worst Potholes

Coming as a surprise to absolutely no one in our state, Michigan has been ranked as the state with the worst potholes. Duh.

Fix the Damn Roads

A few years ago, Gretchen Whitmer built her gubernatorial campaign on the promise that she would 'Fix the damn roads.' Of course, that notion appealed to a lot of people in our state but turned out to be a monumental task that hasn't exactly come to fruition.

Of course, Michigan's weather also plays a big part in our road conditions and the number of potholes we have. Temperature fluctuations (especially in the spring) cause melting snow to seep into pavement. Then when temps drop, the water freezes, expands, and voila! We have a bumper crop of fresh, new potholes.

More Than Just Weather

While Michigan weather is certainly a factor in the number of potholes in our state, there's more to it than that. It's telling when you travel out of state. The moment you enter Ohio on US 23, you notice an immediate improvement in road conditions.

States With the Worst Potholes

As we mentioned, Michigan takes the lead when it comes to potholes in the United States. Indiana, Rhode Island, and Washington aren't far behind. Wyoming, Nebraska, and Delaware have the fewest potholes.
