No, President Trump Isn’t Doing the State of the Union from Lansing
He was invited to but turned it down.
The Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, Lee Chatfield, sent a letter to the President on January 18th, inviting him to come to Michigan to give the State of the Union address.
Traditions, traditions - the Speaker of the House is supposed to "invite" the President to give the SOTU speech. But because our government officials are stomping around like petulant children, he wasn't invited this year.
So, Chatfield invited him to give it at the capitol in Lansing. The President declined. He is, however, planning on doing it anyway, but it's not clear where he'll be speaking from.
