It took him about 25 minutes last Friday to do something no one else had ever done. Nik Wallenda completed a death-defying stunt that left everyone holding their breath.  The daredevil aerialist balanced his way across Niagra Falls on a tight rope, becoming the first man to perform this feat.

Wallenda’s walk happened on a 1,800-foot-long, 2-inch-wide cable. He had prepared vigorously for this challenge. He practiced on a high wire in the  Seneca Niagara Casino parking lot and he made a similar walk across Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

So, why would this Guinness World Record holder want to attempt this stunt besides for the shear adrenaline rush? “Life is being on the wire; everything else is just waiting,” he said, quoting his great-grandfather Karl Wallenda. His entire family, in fact, is known as The Flying Wallenda family, whose ancestry is rooted in circus acrobatics, world record stunts and, of course, tight rope walking.
