The Skilled Training Center in Wayland opened yesterday.

It's about a two-hour drive west from Flint, near Grand Rapids. Governor Gretchen Whitmer was on-hand for the grand opening and gave some remarks about the impact this facility will have on Michigan workers.

Applications are open to the public. All you need is a GED or high school diploma and you can apply to be an apprentice carpenter or millwright. An apprenticeship means that you do not pay tuition, but you also do not GET paid in return. You'll receive hands-on experience through real-world simulations.
