New Michigan Bill Will Require Drivers to Use a Blinker When Changing Lanes
State Representative Abdullah Hammoud wants to clear up the law that requires drivers to use a blinker when turning but doesn't mention changing lanes. He introduced a new bill that will require drivers to use their blinker when changing lanes, which we all should be doing anyway. You can get a ticket for not using your blinker in Michigan, but the issue was recently brought to court by a ticketed driver who said the law was vague. The judge still ruled it was a violation and that using a blinker should be common sense regardless of how vague the law might be. If state rep Hammoud has his way, the law will be clearer in the future.
There won't be any changes to the law overnight though, lawmakers have until the end of 2018 to vote on the new bill.
