Michigan: How Much Do You Need to Make in Order to be Considered Middle Class?

New data breaks it down, state by state.

The Rich Get Richer While the Poor Get Poorer
Over the last two decades (since the mid-2000s) the percentage of people in the US who are considered middle class has shrunk by about 60%. This is according to Oliver Rust, the head of independent inflation data aggregator Truflation.
Rust also notes that there has been a steep increase in the number of people at the extreme bottom and top of the economic spectrum. In other words, the rich get richer while the poor get poorer.
How Much Do You Have to Make to be Considered Middle Class in Michigan?
Consumer Affairs crunched the numbers and determined that in order to be part of the middle class, a family of four in Michigan needs to pull in $64,130 per year.
That figure puts Michigan in the middle of the pack, meaning the minimum annual income is the 28th highest in the US.
Consumer Affairs made its determinations by using a calculator provided by the Pew Research Center and an inflation calculator from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Which States Top the List?
Making a living in Hawaii, New York, and DC is tough, as those areas require over $80,000 per year just to be considered middle class. Hawaii actually tops the list, at $82,630 while DC and New York State tie for second place.
