First Time’s the Charm — Michigan Woman Wins $1 Million on Her Very First Powerball Ticket
A casual conversation with another customer led a Detroit woman to buy her very first Powerball ticket — which turned out to be a $1 million winner.
Chat in a CVS Line Changes Everything
Sharonda Blunt was in line at the CVS Pharmacy on Warren Avenue in Grosse Pointe when she struck up a conversation with a man who had just purchased a Powerball ticket for the September 1 drawing.
“I was talking to a guy in line at the store, and he was telling me about the Powerball game. He bought a ticket, so I told the cashier to give me one too.”
Checking the Numbers With Family
A few days later, Blunt was spending time with family when her aunt mentioned that a $1 million Powerball ticket had been sold at the CVS in Grosse Pointe.
“It got me thinking, so I took out my ticket and had her read off the winning numbers. When she read five of my numbers, I grabbed her phone to see for myself and then started screaming and hollering when I saw I’d won $1 million!”
Blunt says winning the $1 million prize is a true blessing.
True Beginner’s Luck
Beginner’s luck doesn’t even begin to cover it. I’ve lost count of how much I’ve “contributed” to Michigan’s lottery fund, and Blunt wins $1 million on her first $2 ticket. I’m not bitter. No, seriously, not even a little bit.
