Missed it by 'That' Much

The winning ticket sold in Michigan matched five winning numbers for the Saturday (3/16) drawing. However, the lucky player didn't match the Powerball number.

While the player will be able to cash in for a $1 million jackpot, they missed out on the drawing's big prize. Saturday's jackpot was worth a whopping $623 million.

The lucky $1 million winner has not yet been identified, and lottery officials say the winning ticket was purchased online.

There were two other $1 million winners, one in New Jersey and one in South Carolina. But since no one took home the big prize Saturday, the jackpot now climbs to an estimated $645 million for tonight's (3/18) drawing. By the way, the cash value of a $645 million jackpot is about $307 million.

What are the odds of winning the Powerball?

According to this site, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot prize are about one in 292,201,338.

Can Lottery Winners in Michigan Stay Anonymous?

Under current Michigan law, players who win more than $10,000 in winnings playing in-state lottery games can remain anonymous. However, this only applies to in-state games like scratch-off games and Lotto 47. Players who win multi-state games like the Powerball and Mega Millions have to adhere to another set of rules.

However, Michigan is considering legislation that could give Michigan residents the right to stay anonymous when winning large, multi-state jackpots.
