While a recent change implemented by the US Post Office may have had little effect on your life, another change is likely headed your way this summer.

You may not use the United States Post Office as much as your parents did, but Michigan residents still rely on the Post Office for bills, letters, and (if you're lucky) the occasional birthday card with a check or gift card tucked inside.

Recent Changes to the United States Post Office

While a recent change implemented by the USPS on April 1 got a lot of press, it seems like it was much ado about nothing. Have you noticed any difference in mail delivery speed since the beginning of the month?

According to Newsweek, rural customers may see some actual improvements to their mail service as postal workers are now permitted to leave facilities earlier in the day and travel greater distances to make deliveries.

Only about 25% of First Class mail will see any change to delivery speeds, which may make it faster or slower.

The Price of Postage is Likely to Go up in July

While the next phase of the 'Delivering for America' plan is expected to roll out on July 1, the USPS has yet to release specific details about what that phase will entail.

However a major change that will have a large impact on postal customers in Michigan and throughout the US is a change that is expected to be implemented on July 13.

The US Postal Service has recommended a postage rate hike that would raise the cost of First Class Forever Stamps from 73 cents to 78 cents.

According to the USPS, this price adjustment has been approved by the governors of the Postal Service and is expected to be approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission.

Other postal products like postcards will likely see increased rates as well. Stay tuned.
