There is a downside to online shopping. The substitutions sometimes don't add up.

Andreas Hagemann of Ann Arbor wanted to do something nice for his wife, so he went to the Whole Foods website and ordered a dozen pink roses. Except they were out of pink roses, so they offered Andreas a substitution: a single organic red bell pepper.

It makes total sense. Right? What could be more romantic than a shiny vegetable from the nightshade family? Just about anything.

This led to people weighing in on the stupid things they were offered as substitutions from various online shopping sites.

And commenting on the high price of bell peppers these days!

Maybe the red pepper will bring Andreas' wife pure joy!
