A Michigan man was taken to a Lansing area hospital after being impaled by a tree stump on Friday. He lay unattended for 14 hours before help arrived.

Cindy Eiseler says she and three other women heard a man yelling, "I need help!" from a trail near the campus of Michigan State University. Eiseler tells the Lansing State Journal that she and her group flagged down runner Chris Smith who said the man was lying face down with a "chunk of tree" through his shoulder.

Police say the man fell out of a tree around 6 pm Friday but were not sure what he was doing in the tree.
